Description

Mixed-media embroidery on cotton and tulle
Threads: silk, cotton, metallic | Beadwork: glass, vintage seed beads

A haunting portrait drawn from an early 20th-century film still, reimagined through needle and thread. The figure—veiled in tulle like a preserved memory—emerges from silence as red silk veins and turquoise knots pulse across her chest. Beneath the gauze, a heart reawakens.

This work explores what lies beneath the surface: emotion, devotion, and the slow reassembly of self. Inspired by Guillermo del Toro’s Frankenstein, it imagines the body as both archive and invention—stitched together from loss and longing.

Each thread acts as confession, each bead a heartbeat. Under the Veil is part of my ongoing Creature Lullaby series, a collection of embroidered relics that investigate repair, resurrection, and the beauty of imperfection.
