Description
A dramatic collision of vintage fashion, femininity, and fire.
This one-of-a-kind textile artwork begins with a black-and-white vintage photograph of a woman posed in an elegant dark dress. From the lower half of the image erupts an elaborate hand-embroidered flame, built from layers of brilliant red beads, sequins, bugle beads, and dimensional stitching.
The extravagant embellishment transforms the original photograph into something more surreal: a woman who appears not simply surrounded by fire, but emerging from it.
There is something both glamorous and defiant about the image—the controlled elegance of the vintage portrait disrupted by an unapologetic explosion of color and texture. It speaks to transformation, female power, spectacle, and the tension between how women have historically been pictured and what might be happening beneath the surface.
