Description
Six women. One story—retold.
This one-of-a-kind textile artwork reimagines the wives of Henry VIII through stitch, color, and material intervention. Drawn from historical portraiture, each figure is partially transformed with richly textured embroidery, replacing traditional Tudor dress with bold, contemporary fiber forms.
Deep reds, magentas, and burnt orange tones cascade across the figures, unraveling into long, fringed threads that extend beyond the image—suggesting excess, unraveling, and the weight of history carried forward.
Each wife remains recognizable, yet altered. Their identities—so often reduced to a sequence—are given new presence through texture and repetition.
Mounted in an oval embroidery hoop, the piece echoes traditional portrait formats while disrupting them entirely.
